Quick Round vs. Tournament: Which Should You Choose?
Choose a free Quick Round in Dormie for one round with up to four players. Choose a Tournament for more than four players, several rounds with shared standings, or a trip built around tournament teams.
- Four friends playing today: Quick Round keeps the setup simple and is free.
- Four friends playing three rounds for one trip winner: Put the rounds in one Tournament.
- Eight friends playing one round together: Use a Tournament so both foursomes belong to the same event.
- An annual Ryder Cup weekend: Use a Tournament to organize the teams, matches and overall points.
You do not need a big event to use Dormie. It has a starting point for your usual foursome as well as the guys' trip you've been planning for months. This guide explains our app's two options so you can choose before the first tee.
Use a Quick Round for today's golf
A Quick Round is a single outing for up to four players. On Home, choose Quick Round, set up the round and add your friends. You can choose Free-for-All (everyone competing against the group), 1v1 or 2v2.
Those choices describe who competes against whom. The ball format and scoring system determine how you play and decide the result. For example, 2v2 tells you there are two partners on each side; it does not by itself mean you're playing a scramble.
Imagine four friends meeting for Saturday golf. Everyone wants to play their own ball and see who finishes with the lowest total. A Quick Round with Free-for-All, individual ball play and stroke scoring suits that plan. Agree on whether you're using handicaps before starting.
Quick Rounds are free to create and play. You do not need a Tournament Pass for that outing. The current App Store listing describes the free Quick Round and tournament purchase options.
Use a Tournament when the golf belongs together
A Tournament keeps the players, rounds and tournament standings in one event. It can cover one round or a whole trip, with up to 24 players across six rounds.
Picture four friends away for three rounds. If the plan is to add everyone's scores across all three days and name one winner, create an individual stroke-play Tournament using cumulative totals, with all three rounds counting. Everyone plays their own ball; the lowest combined total wins. Choose gross scoring (actual strokes) or net scoring (after handicap strokes) together before the trip.
Now picture eight friends playing only on Saturday. They need two foursomes, but they still want one shared competition. A one-round Tournament puts both groups in that event. One joined scorer in each playing group can enter the scores, and players can follow the live standings in the app with a working connection.
For a weekend plan with room for dinner and downtime, see our two-night golf trip itinerary. If you want two teams competing in matches instead, start with the 12-player Ryder Cup guide.
Who pays for a Tournament?
The Commissioner, the friend organizing the event, activates the Tournament. Invited players join and participate free.
You can build the event and review its actual setup before activation. A Tournament Pass activates one tournament; Commissioner Pro covers unlimited tournament activations while subscribed. Check the App Store for current prices in your region.
The setup guide walks through creating the event, reviewing it and finishing the players and rounds. A Quick Round stays limited to one round and four players: if the plan grows into a larger event, create a new Tournament.
Start with your next round
Dormie is purpose-built for guys' golf trips, and a free Quick Round gives your foursome a way to use it before the next one. For the trip itself, create a Tournament so the golf stays together from the opening round to the final standings.
